● Overview
TANK-TOP-TSUDA is a community-based art project led by KONMASA—a contemporary artist who has worn a tank top every day since 2014—and Sanuki Base, a local “do-it-all” team based in Tsuda Town. Over 99 days, tank-top-themed artworks will appear throughout the town, transforming everyday scenery into a living exhibition.
By following the trail of tank tops scattered across Tsuda, visitors are invited to rediscover art in daily life and form new connections with the town’s people and landscapes. Shops, artists, and even local children will participate by showcasing installations, offering special menu items, and hosting tank-top-inspired events.
This project is part of the Setouchi Triennale 2025 Kagawa Regional Partnership Program “Kururi Art Kagawa”, and is also being developed as a local revitalization initiative.
● Background
Since 2014, KONMASA has worn a tank top every day, treating it as a symbol of everyday life. For him, the tank top is no longer just clothing—it has become a medium that records time and the traces of existence.
In 2024, a tank top that had been buried for 999 days in Nagoya was excavated by Sanuki Base. That moment inspired the birth of this project.
In the summer of 2025, Tsuda will transform. For 99 days, tank tops will appear in the town’s scenery, blurring the boundary between daily life and artwork.
● The Birth, Absorption, and Release of a Tank Top
In the summer of 2024, a single tank top was born on the beach in Tsuda. It was later spotted in various locations around town before being displayed for 99 days on a container near the town entrance.
Eventually, the tank top was ceremonially cut into pieces by local residents—absorbing the energy of Tsuda and being transformed by their hands.
This entire process—birth, absorption, and deconstruction—was documented and compiled into a photo book, which will be sold at select local shops. Each copy includes an actual fragment of the tank top, now being “released” into the world.
These fragments will be available only in Tsuda, from June 3 to September 9, 2025.
